Richard Y asked:

Something about a real hollywood video compared to my home ones is that it’s slower. If you compare side by side a home movie compared to a dvd of a real movie, althought it sounds normal, you can tell that the feel is… slower on the real movie. It’s driving me crazy.

If i know how to slow the movie just that notch, i can make some really good movies… do any of you know how??

For one thing..the major difference between home movies and Hollywood movies is Hollwood spends millions of dollars on all the cast and equipment necessary to make a perfect picture. A home movie is…one man and a video camera. So you can come close to a good movie at home..but nothing compared to the special effects from Hollywood.

first off editing is key if you watch “real” movies it doesn’t have a shot longer than about 8 seconds with out a cut. there is also a big difference in the audio, as the microphones are of a higher quality. finally lighting and make up gives a clearer image

you have to consider that hollywood isn’t using a “home” video camera. but a program that i found very helpful and easy to use is NERO. you can make some very professional looking movies using that software.

hire celebrities… buy a ton of really expensive comp. movie equip. find a cheap editor and an expensive special effects guy….fly them all to some exotic beach or a hole in the wall no one lives there who doesnt have a hole thru there nose never seen a car destination and VOILA!! movie magic.

Well, first and foremost is the quality of the film. Hollywood uses professional 70mm film made from cotton fibers. To me, the real star is that very film. Imagine them trying to make star wars on a regular home video.

Anyway a standard hollywood movie is running at about 30fps or frames per second. The more frames per second the more of a realistic flow you will get. Of course it would take longer to put in any special effects, but it would be worth it.

You also may want to experiment with different light intensitiy.

I think aside from better equipment and editing you need a killer soundtrack. Think of what would be the soundtrack to your life.

Seriously, it makes home videos tolerable and just so much better, and it’s so fast and easy to do.
