I think aside from better equipment and editing you need a killer soundtrack. Think of what would be the soundtrack to your life.

Seriously, it makes home videos tolerable and just so much better, and it's so fast and easy to do.

Well, first and foremost is the quality of the film. Hollywood uses professional 70mm film made from cotton fibers. To me, the real star is that very film. Imagine them trying to make star wars on a regular home video.

Anyway a standard hollywood movie is running at about 30fps or frames per second. The more frames per second the more of a realistic flow you will get. Of course it would take longer to put in any special effects, but it would be worth it.

You also may want to experiment with different light intensitiy.

you have to consider that hollywood isn't using a "home" video camera. but a program that i found very helpful and easy to use is NERO. you can make some very professional looking movies using that software.

first off editing is key if you watch "real" movies it doesn't have a shot longer than about 8 seconds with out a cut. there is also a big difference in the audio, as the microphones are of a higher quality. finally lighting and make up gives a clearer image

For one thing..the major difference between home movies and Hollywood movies is Hollwood spends millions of dollars on all the cast and equipment necessary to make a perfect picture. A home movie is...one man and a video camera. So you can come close to a good movie at home..but nothing compared to the special effects from Hollywood.
