I’m planning on purchasing a dvd recorder in the near future. I have an HDTV with 2 HDMI inputs. I also have Directv with an HD/DVR receiver(I do not have tivo). My goal is to record shows saved on my dvr onto dvds. Furthermore, I would like to still watch my shows that are in HD format in HD once recorded onto dvd. What are reccomendations for a dvd recorder that will meet my needs, keeping a lower price as a consideration?
I’m also confused as to what it means by some dvd recorders that have “HD upconversion.”

I already tried hooking the dvd player “out” to the recorder “in” and the recorder “out” to the tv’s “in” but when I push play on the dvd player and record on the dvd player, it says “no signal”. I can connect the DVD recorder and watch a DVD, I was also able to get the DVD recorder to find analogue channels, but I am having no luck getting it to recognise my Freeview box and record satellite channels. It is a Mikomi DS-8668 and the Freeview box is the smaller kind with one scart socket. I have got three scart leads and some RF cables to work with, but everything I’ve tried seems to fail.

Is it different from a tape do you have to fast foward to the end of the dvd. If its a dvd-r can you record, watch it and record more if theres more space on the disk?
